Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof
Over the last few years this verse of prophetic scripture has been banded around a lot. But what is also apparent is that many of those looking at it do not understand its full implication.
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
It is in fact a prophecy for the last days and is occurring now. But for some reason there seems to be a lot of people that do not understand how it is coming about and what it implies. It will be quoted by those that are doing it even, just to make themselves sound spiritual.
Now this situation did not just drop down out of thin air. It evolved over time in small incremental steps until the vast majority of the saints have been caught up in it. So what I want to do here is explain what it actually means, how it is applied and how a deception like this could have been accepted.
To have a form of Godliness is to be all religious, to keep the commandments and to do the things that the doctrine of the religion requires. Remember it says a form of Godliness, not a form of paganism! Those caught up in this are using the scriptures as their authority, they are just misapplying it.
But to deny the power thereof is the interesting part. The power behind the covenant faiths is God himself. God is the source of the power that works through all the rest of creation. To deny the power is to deny the source of the power which is to deny the God behind the faith. So we end up with a worship of God but the denial of God at the same time.
This has been achieved through substitution. A whole section is faithfully following the professions of the faith but not the God behind it. So the question obviously is just how did this situation come about.
Currently In the Churches there are two different types of Jesus being preached. Obviously the one is the real and the other is the false.
The first is a Jesus that was sent by God to redeem the world back to God
The second is a Jesus that is being used as a replacement for God. What the doctrine says is that Christ is God and that it was God that hung himself on the cross.
Now the first is the correct one as described in the scriptures but if the prophecies of the last days is to be fulfilled then it is also obvious that the second and false definition of Christ is going to be the doctrine that wins out at this time.
As can be seen this doctrine will produce a form of Godliness and be very religious and lift up the name of Jesus but the power behind the faith will be denied because God gets left out and is replaced by a Jesus that is lifted up as God Himself. A subtle deception that produces a world of difference! The power behind the Jesus of the Bible is God the Father. Replace the Father with Jesus and you end up with a powerless Jesus, that is not the one revealed in the scriptures but is an imposter. In other words you have the Anti-christ that is destined to rise to power for a short season!
As can be seen this violates the scriptures but because it is a name involving Jesus our Lord the false doctrine will be the one accepted. But this is not what Jesus taught us to do!
Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Php 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
As can be seen there is a clear distinction made between the Real Jesus and the Real God of the scriptures. Jesus is our Lord and Saviour but God is still or God. In Jesus and his shed blood we have our righteousness but it is from God the Father that the power comes forth!
Now below is the full passage concerning this subject matter and as can be seen it describes this generation to a tee! This is what is happening and the masses do indeed have a form of Godliness but they are in fact far from God even if they do lay claim to a christ.
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
2Ti 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
2Ti 3:10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
2Ti 3:11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
2Ti 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
2Ti 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
But to end off it may be a good idea to give a practical example of where this kind of situation is being applied and even enforced. Where deceivers are deceiving and being deceived with the best of good intentions for the most part.
Below is a link to a popular Christian web site that is dedicated to revival. Certainly a noble cause and with a lot of sincere people involved. Unfortunately they are going around in circles because they just keep repeating the same old thing over and over in the hope that it is suddenly going to work. The reason that it is going nowhere fast is because they have denied the power behind the faith and enforced it with the rules and regulations that prevent any chance of the status quo from being broken.
The link goes to the rules page directly that was originally posted by a moderator called John. This has been changed by another moderator called Lynn who signs her name at the bottom of the post after introducing the rules that bind the movement in to a state of inaction by preventing anything that can break the rut they are caught up in from unfolding.
This is a copy of those rules and any deviation from them will result in deletions and banning, thus preventing any forward momentum from developing.
Hello to all who have joined the Forum. May we become a real family in our fellowship here who truly cares and encourages and loves one another.
We would like to explain a few points of what is expected here on the Forum to ensure fairness to all who come here.
When I agreed to become a Moderator here, I prayed days for this forum and for it to bring Glory to God and I had a desire to see it become the best Christian Forum on the Web - one - God could use for his glory.
It is the responsibility of the Moderators here to keep Godly Order here.
Andrew had asked that there be no "needless strife or harshness" amongst us.
So we now set the Rules we must, to make sure this does not happen. This type of behavior on an ongoing basis will not be tolerated here and posts such as this will be removed.
If this continues we will have to ban this one from our fellowship here.
Posts that are argumentative to the point of manipulation or turning every thread into always pushing your pet peeve without consideration for another will be removed.
Name calling or nasty remarks or inappropriate postings or outbursts of anger will not be tolerated.
If a post is removed for any of these reasons, please we do not need one to post a post of complaining. Please just know we are doing our job and protecting the sheep here.
There are thousands of people who read this forum from all over the world and we put ourselves out there as Christians and name the name of Jesus.
We as Moderators have to be sure we are not allowing his name to be put to shame.
There are a few things we just do not discuss here, that divide the body of Christ and cause the most arguing.
1. Teaching no Godhead/Trinity - We here believe God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit to be the Divine part of the Godhead, One God in Three entities. Father Son and Holy Spirit.
2. Universalism - all go to heaven
3. No hell.
4. Claiming the Word of God is not all truth and in error.
5. Jezebel Spirit
We look forward to moderating this forum and interacting with our brothers and sisters in Christ as we come together to test all things and to bring edification and to encourage one another and to begin to Pray for one another.
Thanks for your cooperation and may we be a light on a hill in all the darkness out their on the web, may we share the hope that is within us and let others see the love of Christ within in us for one another may we reflect Christ that will so attract others to come and partake with us.
God Bless, Lynn
Now this is where the problems that come from this are found. The sterilization of the topics that can be covered thus preventing errors from being exposed and examination of the scriptures so as to work out why revival is not occurring.
Yes there are topics there that are obviously wrong but because they are banned from being spoken about there can be no explanation given as to why they are wrong. So a good chunk of the teachings that can be given to counter the deceptions coming from the world are always going to be absent. The uncomfortable questions are all swept under the rug where they cannot be examined in the light of the scriptures that the site claims to be promoting. Thus all deceptions are left unchallenged and cannot be disproven, thus approving them by omission.
Now number one on the list may sound like good Catholic doctrine but it is not being used for such. This movement is one of those that follows that Christ is a replacement for God Doctrines as in Jesus is God himself! But because no discussion is allowed on the subject no study can be conducted to look at the relationship between God, Son and Holy Spirit. The end result being that the false doctrine ends up being protected from any discussion Where the scriptures may be presented so as to examine what they have to reveal about the positions and relationships involved with the trinity. A form of Godliness but denying the power thereof! And enforced so the revival movement is not really going to be going anywhere very fast.
But the biblical prophecies regarding this situation comes to pass!
For those that know the people involved with the site and the history of it, the last rule regarding the Jezebel spirit is hilarious. But it is sad that the mission that the site was designed to achieve is basically check mated!
Any way that process is being repeated all over Christendom with the result that we now have the great falling away of the last days.
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
